One rapper’s lack of guitar prowess launched career for Fort Erie’s Steve Terreberry
Back in 2008, Steve Terreberry found himself at loose ends and was checking out videos online when he saw the first glimpse of his future.
“There were a couple of viral guitar videos in the early days of YouTube, and I’m like, I want to do that. There was a kid who played (Pachelbel’s) Cannon, that classical song. When he played it on guitar and got, like, millions of views.”
So Terreberry thought he’d try his hand and created his own video.
“I did When the Saints Go Marching In — a shred version of that — and I’m like, ‘This is going to get millions of views.’”
Needless to say, it was not a success.
Enter Lil’ Wayne and his guitar “talent.” Terreberry saw the rapper attempt a guitar solo during the musical guest slot on a 2011 episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’.
“I was like, ‘wow, this is horrible.’ So, I did a parody of how to do use his technique. At this point, I was putting anything on YouTube. I just didn’t care anymore. It was like my serious stuff didn’t go anywhere, so now I just don’t care.”
It turns out others did, however and this views came pouring in and Terreberry, who goes by Stevie T for his videos, was on his way.
